After over 20 years of practice in Concordia, Kan., optometrist Dr. Steven Bryant is taking a step toward retirement. The New Year brings new ownership of the optometry practice at 119 West 7th Street, originally founded in 1918 by Dr. E.R. Ingersoll. Starting in 2015 Dr. Chad Thompson and Dr. Nick Richmond of The EyeCare Center in Beloit, Kan. will assume full-time operation, followed immediately by extensive renovations.
Office hours will remain the same, Monday through Friday from 8:30am to 5pm. Dr. Bryant will continue pediatric eye care services including vision therapy treatment every Monday. Drs. Thompson and Richmond will provide comprehensive vision and eye health exams the rest of the week. In addition, ophthalmologist Dr. Bill Witt of Manhattan will continue to provide surgical consultation every Thursday.
“We are overjoyed that Dr. Bryant is continuing in practice. Vision therapy and pediatric eye care is an underserved specialty. Having Dr. Bryant's experience and expertise available is vitally important to children and families in and around Concordia,” said Dr. Thompson.
Three new full-time positions will be created in Concordia to better serve the public. Leading the staff will be optical manager and certified optician Seth Golding, ABOC.
"We have three great career opportunities available including: paraoptometric, optician, and patient care coordinator,” says Golding. “Training and certification are of vital importance at The EyeCare Center and we look forward to developing a phenomenal staff in Concordia," says Golding.
The EyeCare Center will perform sweeping renovations to the layout and appearance of the office. Planned upgrades include expanded space for new services and an increased optical display area. New examination space and instrumentation will be added to provide full-scope vision and eye health services. The optical will offer new frame lines including prescription and non-prescription sunglasses.
New technology in the form of advanced contact lens designs and diagnostic imaging for eye disease will be added to the office. Drs. Thompson and Richmond are experienced in fitting contact lenses for astigmatism and bifocals, in addition to solving problems for people who suffer from contact lens dryness and discomfort. Instrumentation for diagnosis of glaucoma, macular degeneration, and vision loss will be state-of-the-art technology additions to the practice.
Concordia will be The EyeCare Center’s third location. Established in 1946, Beloit is the original location with Smith Center, Kan. added as a second location in 2001.
“Expansion is not something to take lightly,” explains Dr. Richmond. “We pride ourselves on providing only the highest quality eye care services and products, and look forward to continuing the exceptional standard of care set by Dr. Bryant.”
"I thank my patients and the citizens of Concordia for a long and rewarding career. Concordia is fortunate to have such fine professionals as Dr. Thompson and Dr. Richmond continue the legacy of this practice. The future looks very bright indeed," said Dr. Bryant.
Dr. Thompson is a native of Beloit, Kan. and is the current President of the Kansas Optometric Association. He also holds the rank of Major in the United States Air Force Reserve with the 931st Air Refueling Group at McConnell Air Force Base, Kan.
Dr. Richmond was raised in Garden City, Kan. and finished high school in Cheney, Kan. He is an active member of Lions Club where he serves as President. Dr. Richmond also serves as an appointed member of the City of Beloit Planning Commission.
