TOPEKA, KS - Dr. Chad Thompson was the 2009 recipient of the Young Optometrist of the Year Award announced by the Kansas Optometric Association, April 17, 2009, at the organization's 109th Annual Convention and Seminar at the Sheraton Hotel in Overland Park. This award recognizes optometrists in practice for less than 10 years who have demonstrated outstanding involvement in their community and the optometric profession.
A 1995 graduate of Kansas State University and 1999 graduate of Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, Dr. Thompson was recognized for his involvement in the optometric community through membership in the American Optometric Association, Kansas Optometric Association, Eye Care Council, Heart of America Contact Lens Society and the SEE TO LEARN Children's Vision Program. He has served on numerous committees within the Kansas Optometric Association and represents North Central Kansas optometrists as Zone President on the Kansas Optometric Association Board of Directors.
Dr. Thompson has also been active in his community, serving three terms on the Beloit City Council and serving as a steering committee member for the Mitchell County Partnership for Children. He is also active in the Beloit Lions Club and holds the rank of Captain and Chief of Optometry in the Air Force Reserve with the 931st Air Refueling Group at McConnell Air Force Base, KS.
Dr. Thompson's and his wife, Sheila M. Thompson, have two children Phillip Benjamin, 4, and Sophia, 2. He practices at The EyeCare Center in Beloit and Smith Center, KS with Dr. Bren Myers.
